Job Title: Brewer/Distiller

SUMMARY:

Initially reporting to the Master Distiller, the Brewer/Distiller will be responsible for:

Assisting the Distillery operations team in the day to day running of the distillery This includes operating the plant, taking samples, carrying out analysis, cleaning equipment and area cleaning. Growing their understanding of brewing, distilling, maturation & bottling processes with a view to developing competence through training, hands on experience and mentoring. The Distillery has an annual capacity of approx. 300kLAs with the capability of expanding to ~500kLAs per annum.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The role responsibilities will include the following:

STRATEGIC Work as required with the Master Distiller and the rest of the team on product innovation and liquid development.

DISTILLERY OPERATIONS

  • Be involved in the walkdown and labelling of all new process installations at the distillery
  • Assist in the commissioning of the newly installed equipment
  • Assist in the day to day operations of the distillery. This will involve everything from equipment preparation, mash preparation, loading / unloading, milling, mashing, distilling, equipment cleaning, area cleaning, bottling etc.
  • Partaking in training that will develop their competence in all aspects of distillery operations from Brewing, Fermentation, Distillation, Laboratory techniques, Maturation, Bottling, utilities etc.
  • Assist in the promotion and development of a culture of safety within the distillery
  • Process Optimization – working with the team to improve performance and output from the distillery
  • Assisting with deliveries and out loading at the distillery
  • Assisting with the day to day maintenance of the distillery equipment
  • Logistics and transport of raw materials to and from the distillery
  • Transport of Casks to and from the distillery to its storage location
  • Other Ad hoc duties as required
  • SALES & MARKETING
  • Attend as required events and launches promoting our brands
  • Take part as required in tours and tastings at the distillery

QUALITIFICATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Experience of working in the brewing and distilling sector desirable
  • Previous involvement in a brewery /distillery startup desirable

KEY SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Understanding of Brewing and Distilling operations
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong willingness to learn and develop

  • Adaptable to busy production environment.
  • Optimistic and pragmatic.
  • A highly motivated self-starter with a positive, can-do attitude
  • A strong team player who is flexible, reliable and can build effective relationships
