IT’S AGAVE, NOT TEQUILA – WIGGLY BRIDGE DISTILLERY RELEASES LONG AWAITED SPIRIT

York, Maine – September 29 – Wiggly Bridge Distillery, a local family owned and operated business that has earned a reputation for their award-winning, small batch spirits, will be officially releasing their long awaited Agave spirit starting Saturday September 29th.

The awaited release has been a year long wait from being behind schedule. “We had hopes of releasing this spirit in Fall 2017 and that just didn’t happen. Between logistics and making sure we understood the subtle nuances of making a premium agave product, we wanted to make sure we did it right. It was worth the wait” remarks David Woods, Owner/Founder of Wiggly Bridge Distillery.

The Agave spirit is made from 100% blue agave, no sugar added. The blue agave plant a relative of the aloe plant and its juices are distilled into agave, otherwise known as tequila. Just as champagne cannot be called champagne unless it was made in the region of Champagne, France, by law tequila cannot be called tequila unless it is made in Mexico. “We are incredibly proud of this product, as we are all our products. The amount of emails and people coming to our door asking for this product over the past year has been astounding. I’m really happy to finally say, it’s available!” Said Amanda Woods, Head of Marketing for Wiggly Bridge Distillery.

Wiggly Bridge Distillery is rolling out 3 expressions of the Agave spirit which includes a Platinum, Reposado, and an Anejo.

Each expression is representative of the length of time the spirit has been aging. The Platinum Agave spirit is decanted for about 14 weeks. The Reposado is aged from 2-11 months and is recognized by it’s amber color. The Anejo, which is aged the longest of the 3, is aged between 12-18 months and is noticeable by its beautiful mahogany color. “Each expression of agave has its own unique taste. You can taste the progression of the aging. It’s a complex yet refined spirit that is an incredible for sipping and makes a great cocktail” says David Woods Jr., co-owner/founder of Wiggly Bridge Distillery.

The Agave will be available for sale at the distillery and a cocktail party featuring cocktails made with the handcrafted spirit is in the works for mid-October.

About Wiggly Bridge Distillery:

The idea to make craft spirits all started when David Woods and his son, Dave joked “let’s make our own whisky” over a family dinner. Since then the father-son team have taught themselves how to fabricate their own copper stills by watching YouTube videos and developed craft spirits based on techniques they learned from reading books from the 1800s. From hobby to obsession to profession, the Woods family has created award-winning spirits, which include their small barrel bourbon, white whisky, small barrel rum, white rum, vodka and gin with an agave release in the next few months. The first Wiggly Bridge Distillery opened in 2012 in York Beach, Maine and in 2016 the family added a second, larger distillery on Route 1 in York.
