U.S. Treasury Response to Rep. Blumenauer

June 29, 2020

The Honorable Earl Blumenauer
U.S. House of Representatives
Washington, SC 20515

Dear Representative Blumenauer:

I write in reply to your May 18, 2020 letter urging the Treasury Department of defer excise taxes deadlines on domestic beer, wine, and distilled spirits for the remainder of the calendar year.

As your letter notes, Treasury already provided a 90-day deferral for domestic alcohol in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Although we presently have no plans to extend relief beyond our March announcement, we are continuing to monitor the economy for areas and industries in need of additional relief.

If you have further questions, please direct your staff to contact the Office of Legislative Affairs.

Sincerely,

Frederick W. Vaughan
Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary
Office of Legislative Affairs
