Mark Shilling started the topic Barrel Size Limits in the forum TTB 7 years ago
I think this is by far the most controversial of the proposed changes, and I am fairly certain no one will be in favor of limiting barrel sizes. Also, I don’t think it is TTB’s specific intent to do so, but rather that are asking the question in order to see if there is any compelling feedback for do so. That being said, I have seen a few people…[Read more]

Here is an update from the American Single Malt Whiskey Commission (http://www.americansinglemaltwhiskey.org/), written by Steve Hawley from Westland Distilling. This is just one aspect of the proposed updates that are troublesome. Please note the section highlighted below: It is worth noting that legal council believes these proposed regs are NOT…[Read more]

Mark as you have already pointed out elsewhere defining a barrel as approximately 50 gallons is very problematic. It is a copious document that I am still wading through and hope to have further comments soon.

Thought this might be helpful for those of you working on marketing plans. I shared this over on the blog for High-Proof Creative:

Marketing entails way more than just than social media, and it may be one reason you do not have a full-scale marketing plan yet. Clients often tell me it comes down to lack of time or knowledge of what to include…

Mark Shilling replied to the topic ABV/ Proof on the label in the forum Labeling 7 years ago
You have to include a specific proof on your label submission, but because you may change proof without re-approval you can then handwrite the details in later no matter the number you submitted originally.

How do you get a label approved if you are going to hand write in the ABV/proof at the time of bottling? I just submitted a label and had “_____ABV / _____ Proof” and put in the notes to the reviewer that it would be between 80 and 100 proof and would be written in for the actual proof at the time of bottling. They rejected it and said it had to…[Read more]

I always point to Sketchers as they have work shoes and boots (for women and men too) that are safety toe (some with composite toe vs steel toe, much lighter), electrical hazard, as well as slip resistant.

I don’t have a recommendation but I’d love to share with you what I’ve been told in the past:
First, shorter boots may be safer. If a tank of hot mash spills into your boots, the shorter they are, the less volume they’ll hold.
Second, and along the same lines, slip on boots may be a safer option (as long as they fit well) because they’re…[Read more]

Hi Jeff!
Thanks for replying. Koval and Corsair’s success with naming whiskies that have pseudocereals in them does give me some hope in the naming. Thanks again!
