The Distillery Production Manager occupies a key role that is necessary to ensure smooth operation of the production department and its coordination with the other departments within the distillery. While this role is focused on the efficient production of high quality spirits, the role does not start at distillate production, nor does it end with packaged product.
Key inter-departmental tasks – non Distilling
Office
- Purchase Orders – coordinate raw materials need with ownership
- Goods Receipt PO’s – ensure inventory is received properly
Production
- Work with ownership to create award winning spirits
- Utilize all resources available to continue R&D projects
- Maintain current barrel inventory
Packaging
- Coordinate and execute to ensure a steady supply of finished goods
- weekly Production/Sales meetings – for scheduling purposes
- New product updates – descriptions, tasting notes for all products
- Product Availability Report – Obeer – sales and availability
- Distillery Events – specialty product info for specific events
Retail
- Weekly “up load” to the Retail managers and staff regarding new items
- Bi-weekly tasting notes and staff training with spirit sampling if needed
- Tasting room shifts as needed
Key Production Duties
Book Keeping
- Use Orchestrated Spirits software to track all aspects of the distillery business from the purchasing of raw materials through delivery of finished goods
- Ensure accuracy of all inputs into the system
- Ensure physical inventory matches OSpirits inventories
- Maintain accurate production details and inventory to ensure accurate reporting on both State and Federal level.
Planning
- Seasonal Production Planning
- Raw Materials Planning
Operations/Daily
- Wash Packaging production scheduling
- Based on current needs and future forecasting
- Staff Meetings – bi-weekly
- With retail and sales staff
- SOPs – review and optimize
- Recipes – review and optimize
- Create accurate BOMs
- Create accurate process automation recipes
- Brew house operations – review and optimize
- Still Operation – review and optimize
- QA/QC – develop lab manual and testing procedures
Monthly Deliverables
- Inventories – Finished Goods, Raw Materials
- Inventories – WIP & Barrels
- Maintenance Report
- Production outlook – Schedule and planning
