Re: CALL TO ACTION on REDUCTION OF FET
Dear ACSA Member,
We need your help. Right now. This afternoon, Senators Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Roy Blunt (R-MO) filed an amendment to reduce the FET for small craft distillers. The legislation will reduce the excise tax from $13.50 to $2.70 for the first 100,000 proof gallons produced and removed from bond. The amendment, similar to the provisions added to the tax extender bill in December, will also help small brewers and vintners.
The amendment has been filed to the re-authorization of the Federal Aviation Administration(FAA). Why there you may ask? Anytime a bill that has tax implications is taken up by the Senate, it is open for amendment on virtually any subject. We thank the two Senators for seizing this opportunity on our behalf.
ACSA believes this amendment stands a good chance to be considered and receive a positive vote. It is possible this will occur as early as next week. We, together with the industry, are working closely with these two Senate offices. These Senators have asked for our grassroots support because they recognize a reduction in the FET will create jobs and spur growth in our businesses.
BUT, nothing is certain, particularly in the halls of Congress.
These Senators have not let us down – we need to not let them down and help champion our cause. Specifically, contact your Senators’ office and ask them to cosponsor AND support the Wyden-Blunt amendment to the FAA bill. Please place in the subject line of your email TAXES.) We can take nothing for granted and must have a strong vote of support in the U.S. Senate.

Won’t you please act? Now. Let’s fight this fight together.
Cheers–
