According to the explanation section in the proposal, “In the current regulations, when a whisky meets the standard for a type of whisky, it is unclear whether the label must use that type designation or may use the general class “whisky” on the label. TTB believes that consumers expect that the type designation will appear on the container when it applies.”

I believe they are simply following their regulatory mandate to ensure accurate information to the consumer. Personally, I think this is a good thing and it supports our values concerning transparency, HOWEVER I will readily admit that there may be some good reason, examples or at the very least exceptions to this, that I haven’t really thought about. Would love to hear additional thoughts/feedback.
